Han Hoth Experts? Help Needed

Hi there,

This is my Han Hoth from childhood, the only figure I have left from my childhood. Can anybody pinpoint which card back this figure would have come from? Palitoy or Kenner, or could it be either?

It was bought in the UK in late 1982 or early 1983. I have a vague memory of the weapon getting stuck in a twin stem bubble when I ripped it from the card, but I could be imagining that.

I realise I might not get a precise answer but any help appreciated and cheers

Not sure if this helps but -
His face doesn't match any of my Kenner carded figures I have

but he does look the same as my loose Palitoy Han.

I would suggest you have a look at Variant Villians website.

Yep thanks, appears to be a smile figure. It doesn't confirm which moc I would need to match the figure though.

If it's a Smile figure you will need a Hong Kong card back.
you are looking for an S on the rear, see here…

I'm afraid thats all I can offer.

Thanks. My gut feeling is it came from a Palitoy 45a or 45b, can't rule out a Kenner though. I'm almost certain it was ESB and not ROTJ because I remember when the film logo changed on cardbacks, which was later.

You'll never know for sure as a smile HK figure can be found on both Kenner and Palitoy cardbacks.

As it's a HK coo it is almost certain it will have been found on a ESB cardback as during the ROTJ era the smile figures had the Coo removed.

I don't know all the Palitoy card backs the Han Hoth came on but I've seen a 45c so it tallies with your memories. Kenner cardbacks include the 31A, 41a, 41e, 45a and 47a.

Hope this helps.

Hello @Hod10 I'm no expert on COOs but think you could be right about the Palitoy 45A or B. This 45A is a reseal but apparently with the original figure - same COO as you. Looks good for the 45B too, the one question is whether the 45A paint job is quite the same. Could it also be the tri logo figure?

Also looks good for Kenner 45, 47 and 48 below

@spoons thanks for the help. This Han Hoth is one of the first figures from a batch I remember opening and it can be seen in this old photo. No Dengar in this photo which I got as a mail away later. The figure was almost certainly taken from an ESB card because I remember when the film logo changed to ROTJ which came later. It definitely wasn't from a tri-logo cardback.

I found some pictures on my pc. But I am not sure the face are the same 100% but the coo looks the same to me. I have this pictures from a guy, I do not remember his name or who he was. He was trying to sell his childhood collection 4 years ago. He told me cardbacks and figures was from his own childhood. But his prices was to high for me so I did not buy them.

I do not know if the pictures can help you

@Pomse2001 thanks for your help mate. Yep, the face paint looks different but the COO looks the same. I guess I'll never know for sure if it came from a Palitoy or Kenner card.

My 30 back and 41 back both have paler faces than yours @Hod10 so I think you are right in saying 45 onwards. Kenner 41 backs and earlier also have paler faces
